The Royal College of Ophthalmologists Refraction Certificate in December is an OSCE station exam which tests the key aspects and skills of refraction. Success in this exam comes through two vital areas of preparation –  significant practical experience of the refractive techniques and being prepared for what each OSCE station entails in order to make the exam as predictable as possible.

This online tutorial is designed for those candidates who have been working on the practical elements of the exam and are refining their final preparations for the exam. It will review the different areas of objective and subjective refraction giving practical tips on how to become more slick and concise, and how you might approach these different skills in the context of the OSCE stations.

It will also deliver lots of practical advice on how to approach this exam with the aim of minimising any possible surprises or problems on the day and to make it run as smoothly as possible.

The tutorial is taught by Stanley Keys, an experienced hospital optometrist based in Inverness. Stanley has coached a lot of ophthalmology trainees over the past 20 years in preparing for their refraction certificate exam. For several years in Dundee he helped to run the popular Refraction Success Course which proved a beneficial platform for candidates taking this exam.

The tutorial will last for 1.5hr to 2hrs and will allow for questions and discussion. Each delegate will get an electronic copy of Refraction Quick Notes, which will give a summary of each exam station and advice on how to approach them. The tutorial is delivered via Cisco Webex, with an invite and email of information being sent to all delegates within the two week period before the tutorial.

I look forward to seeing you on the tutorial!

Many thanks

Stanley
