Red eyes are hugely common presentations in our clinics and practices. A consultant colleague of mine about 10 years ago, told me, “There’s not always such a thing as a straightforward red eye.”
Having seen a lot of such cases in eye casualty clinics, I was often reminded of this very useful thought. This online tutorial will give an overview of red eye conditions, looking both at the mild end of the spectrum through to the more serious end of the spectrum. The key as clinicians is to try to make a diagnosis and treat where possible but crucially to recognise when a red eye case is being caused by a sight or eye threatening condition. This tutorial will aim to highlight the ways in in which we can recognise the serious cases and what the best course of action is.
What questions we ask our patients, what clinical signs to look for and what the red flags are.
This will be a useful overview for optometrists with or with our IP and also for ophthalmic nurses who are also involved in triaging and seeing these patients.
3 interactive UK CPD (IP) points available and CPD certificates will be issued to all attendees.
I look forward to seeing you on the tutorial.
Thank you
Stanley
